Հիմա կասեք` էկավ էլի իր Jet-ով: Դե, հա, էլի եկա: :Ճ

Բայց ոնց կարող էի չգրել վերջին ալբոմի մասին: Անձամբ ես մի քիչ վախեցած (մի րոպե.. չէ, ԼԱՎ էլ վախեցած) էի սպասում Shaka Rock-ին: Դե, անկեղծ ասած Shine On-ն այդքան էլ պայծառ չէր Get Born-ից հետո (սա հրաշալիորեն հաստատում է իմ այն տեսությունը, որ առաջին ալբոմը համարյա միշտ ավելի լավն է լինում, քան երկրորդը): Լավ, լավ.. խոստովանում եմ, մի քանի լավ երգեր կային Shine On-ում:

Բայց հիմա Shaka Rock-ի մասին: Դե, երբ տարվա սկզբին լսեցի նոր ալբոմի ապագա թողարկման մասին լուրը, կարգին ուրախացա (փաստորեն խմբի հետ ամեն ինչ կարգին է, դեռ ավելին, Iggy Pop-ի հետ անցյալ տարի մի հատ բոմբ երգ էին թողարկել, ավելի ճիշտ, տրիբյուտ Johnny O'Keefe-ին` հանրահայտ The Wild One-ը): Եվ այսպես, պատրաստվում էի կրկին վայելել էս վայրենի տրամադրությունը` նախօրոք պաշարելով մի-երկու երգ ապագա ալբոմից` K.I.A.-ն ու She’s A Genius-ը (չէ, ապօրինի ոչ մի բան չեմ արել, պաշտոնական կայքում ամեն ինչ կար): Մի քիչ ապշեցրեց K.I.A.-ի տեսահոլովակը` բռնության բացահայտ դրսևորումներով, բայց երգը մի լավ հիշեցնում էր իմ շատ սիրելի մուլտերից մեկից մի հատված (դրա մասին բլոգում գրել եմ ամիսներ առաջ այ այստեղ):

Իսկ հետո եկավ ամառը, ու ալբոմ ալբոմի հետևից թողարկվել որ թողարկվում էին, ու հասավ այն երջանիկ պահը, երբ մի քանի օր տարբերությամբ թողարկվեցին Arctic Monkeys-ի ու Jet-ի ալբոմները: Ի~նչ օրեր էին: :Ճ

Shaka Rock-ը ստացվել էր... շատ Jet-ոտ (ահաաա, հազիվ մի խումբ, որ լուրջ փորձարկումներ չէր արել սեփական հնչողության հետ 2009-ին): Դեռ ամիսներ առաջ մեկ-երկու երգ կտոր-կտոր լսելով ակնհայտ էր, որ... ԱՅՈՈՈ, մեր իմացած Jet-ն է: Ու ո~նց համոզվեցի դրանում ալբոմն ունկնդրելիս: Նույն խումբը, որ քեզ կպարացնի անգամ աշխատանքի վայրում, նույն խումբը, որ նավթալինի հոտը դարձնում է սիրելի ու նույնիսկ գրավիչ (մեկ-մեկ կասկածներ են առաջանում խմբի անդամների ժամանակային պատկանելության վերաբերյալ):

Առաջին ոչ օֆիցյալ սինգլը փաստորեն K.I.A.-ն էր, հետո հաջորդեց She’s a Genius-ը նույն տիպի տարօրինակ, բայց այս անգամ շատ ավելի “պուպուշ” տեսահոլովակով: Դե իսկ խմբի երկրորդ պաշտոնական (երրորդ` ընդհանրապես ալբոմից) սինգլը Black Heart’s (On Fire)-ն է, որի տեսահոլովակը տեսել եմ ընդամենը մեկ անգամ.. դե, նորույթ է դեռ ու էքկլյուզիվ: :Դ

Աաաախ, ալբոմը.. Նախ, ամենակարևոր բանը, որ պիտի իմանաք սա լսելիս (եթե դեռ չեք լսել. ամոթ), տարբեր բացականչությունների առկայությունն է ալբոմում:

Բացականչություններն ընդգրկում են բավական մեծ սպեկտր: Դրանցից են.

Եվ այսպես շարունակ: Արդեն հասկացաք` ինչ նկատի ունեի, երբ խոսում էի պարելու մասին: Երգերը դրայվով ու աղմուկով չեն հասնի Get Born-ին (առանց զոհերի), բայց մի հետաքրքիր բան եմ նկատել. երգերն ավելի չոր են, ինչը ստիպում է մտածել դրայվի մասին ու քեզ անընդհատ պահում լարվածության մեջ, ինչից էլ առաջանում է դրայվի իմիտացիա: Հեհ, հետաքրքիր են մտածել: :P

Բալլադնե~ր, որտե՞ղ են բալլադները: :Չ Այ սա ալբոմի ամենաթույլ կողմն է. պատկերացնու՞մ եք, Jet, ու բալլադ չկա: Ավելի ճիշտ էսպես է. լսում ես ալբոմը, երգ է սկսվում, թվում ` բալլադ է, իսկ պարզվում է` ոչ: Օրինակ, Walk, Seventeen.. Չնայած, չէ, մի հատ բալլադ կա, էն էլ Nic Cester-ը չի երգում (դե, Jet-ի մոտ ավանդույթ է դարձել երգել բոլորով` հերթով):

Լավ տրամադրություն ունենալու հիանալի միջոց են. Beat On Repeat, Black Hearts (On Fire), La Di Da, Goodbye Hollywood..

Ալբոմում ինձ հատկապես ուրախացրեց Times Like This երգը: Ես երևի թուլություն ունեմ նման վերնագրով երգերի նկատմամբ (հիշոնք Foo Fighters-ին, Jack Johnson-ին): Ամենավառ երգերից մեկն է ալբոմում` կոտորակային հարվածայինների ու (վաաաաախ) կիթառների ձայնի շնորհիվ/պատճառով: Համ էլ ինչ-որ երգչախումբ է երգում կրկներգի ժամանակ, որի կազմում կամ երեխա, կամ կին կա: Ամեն դեպքում մի ուրիշ երգ է ստացվել:

Մի անգամ էլ խոսե՞նք պարելու մասին: :Դ

Չէ, էլ չենք խոսում. ուղղակի միացնում ենք ու պարուուում: :Ճ

You will say: “Ah, cmoooon, again you with you Jet”. Well, yes, hell, I’m here! :)

How could I skip this album? Personally me was a bit (no, wait... QUITE A LOT) scared while waiting for the release of Shaka Rock. Honestly, Shine on wasn’t that good as Get Born (this proves my theory about “the first album is almost always better than the second one”). Ok, ok.. I confess, there were some really good songs on Shine On.

But now, about Shaka Rock. I was really happy hearing about the upcoming release in the beginning of the year (well, this means that everything is fine with the band, they still exist, more than that, they did a tribute to Johnny O’Keefe, The Wild One with Iggy Pop!): And so, I was ready to enjoy this wild music, gathering all the available tunes from upcoming release – K.I.A. and She’s a Genius (nothing illegal, they were available on the website!). I was a bit shocked by the K.I.A. video with obvious signs of violence, but it reminded me of a scene from one of my favourite cartoon-movies (I wrote about it a few months ago in the blog here).

Then the summer came, album after album. And here is the happiest moment: 2 albums in a few days – one from Arctic Monkeys, on from Jet! What days!

Shaka Rock was.. very Jety (wow, at last a band that didn’t do any violent experiment with its own sound in 2009!). Even months ago hearing some pieces from upcoming release it was quite clear that it’s.. Jet that we know! And album proved it, too! The same band making you dance even at your workplace, the band that makes stylish old music (sometimes I doubt if they are in the right time).

The first non-official single was K.I.A., then She’s a Genius, with kind-of-K.I.A. video but more tolerant to human beings. And here comes the second official (the third from the album) single Black Heart’s (On Fire). I saw the video just once.. Still an exclusive :D

Ohhh, the album.. The important thing that you should know is the presence of different shoutings in the songs. They  are quite a wide range.. Like:

Yah, yah, yah, yah, yah, yah, yah, yah, yeah

And so on and so forth.. Now you know what I meant when talking about dancing. The songs themselves are not that drive like the ones from Get Born (don’t kill me!), but there is an interesting thing: the songs are more dry which makes you think of drive which makes you stay in stress which creates an imitation of drive. Koooool :P

Ballads.. Where the hell are ballads? :( This is the weakest part of the album: can you imagine, Jet without any ballads? Truly saying, listening to the songs, you think it’s a ballad then you realize that it’s not, for example, Walk, Seventeen. But no, there is one ballad, but it’s not Nic Cester singing (well, it’s a tradition for Jet to rotate the vocalist rights in the band):

To get into the right rock’n’roll mood you need Beat On Repeat, Black Heart (On Fire), La Di Da, Goodbye Hollywood..

The favourite one for me is Times Like This. I guess this title is a disease for me (remember Foo Fighters, Jack Johnson?). One of the coolest songs in the album, with strike beats and (yeah!) guitars. By the way, there is a chorus singing in the song, and there is a child or a woman in it! Really a great song!

One more time about dancing? :D

No, no more talks, just put the volume on the highest and... DAAAANCE! :)

Jet - Get Born (September 14, 2003)

Here it is: listening to this band you will have a Déjà vu. “Oh my God, did The Beatles have this song? When did they record it?.. Hmmm, no? Elvis? The Rolling Stones?” You will point to famous names of 60s-70s. But no, this is Jet, having a huge influence on itself from The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, The Beatles, Led Zeppein, Oasis, The Kinks, The Who etc.

In the age of forming they announced many times: “Yes, we like 70s style. And more similar we play to the original, the better it is!” (Hmm, honestly speaking, Gallagher brothers and even The Rolling Stones were partying with this music when they were… hmm… girls: that’s how we call the young age in Armenia). That’s why the critics categorize Jet as Rock’n’roll and Pop Rock.

So, originally from Australia, sounding like British, Jet formed around 1998 when Cester brothers were playing for their schoolmates. Once they took the recorded tape to a concert of their favourite You Am I. During the show Chris decided (hmmm) to throw the tape to the stage. And he did.. But his hand shuddered (who knows?) and it hit the vocalist’s nose which threw it back to the crowd. It hit Nick who later said: “I had an insight!”. The insight belongs to the band. By the way, the tape was quite useful afterwards.

Then boring times started when they worked in random places and finally gathered to play on concerts of some famous bands. And so on and so forth… until there was a persistent producer who brought them to a higher level.

The part that interests us the most at this point is the year 2003 when their debut album – Get Born was released.

A bit about the sound.

Last Chance: True choice! It’s the opening track that gives all the depressive people the last chance to commit a suicide! It’s just impossible to listen to such drive and be so dull!

Are you gonna be my girl: The second track. Ohhh, this is something.. I know, I know, You have heard this somewhere.. for sure! Perhaps it was a party hit at least once in your life! This is another strike on people who still think only of The Beatles when they hear “rock’n’roll”. A bit crazy, stupid but with a perfect mood – let’s say so and… Do you still read this?! GO AND DANCE!

Poor DJ! Rollover DJ: their target is a DJ, who is totally not cool! Listen to that one and shout at me “The guitar sound!”

Look What You’ve Done: a kind, kind… hmm.. a very kind ballad. It’s to prove that the guys are not always drunk and smoking and sometimes they have a good taste. It was a hit on our local radio stations a few years ago. I liked it but didn’t know who was playing.

Get What You Need: Yeah.. Don’t know what else to say.. Well, perhaps only Jet knows the meaning of the song. I’m sure, something based on real life!

Here I want to say something: did you notice how they shout “YEAH” (especially in Cold Hard Bitch)? Australians can do that, like The Vines.

Move On, Radio Song, Come Around Again, Timothy: in general we can say “out of the world and the album”. Totally like Look What You’ve Done.

Get Me Outta Here, Cold Hard Bitch, Take It Or Leave It, Lazy Gun: The guitars, rhythms, noise with taste, great mood and this YEAH! And so, if I don’t talk too much (usually I don’t), then I will give an appropriate finale. More detailed and subjective comments I leave for you. Live the feeling again, like you did when you first heard Get Born.

Ciao.. YEAH!

Ահա մի խումբ, որի երգերը լսելիս ձեզանից շատերի մոտ կառաջանա դեժավյու կոչված զգացողությունը:

-Տե'ր աստված, այս ի՞նչ է կատարվում, - կասեք դուք, - միթե Beatle-ները այսպիսի երգեր ունեն... այդ ե՞րբ են հասցրել ձայնագրել... ո՞չ, Էլվի՞սը... The Rolling Stones... ու այդպես կշարունակեք թվարկել 60-70-ականների հայտնի դեմքերի անունները: Բայց ոչ. սա Jet-ն է, պարզապես այդ բոլոր խմբերը (The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Oasis, The Kinks, The Who) իրենց հերթին ազդեցություն են ունեցել խմբի երաժշտական ճաշակի ձևավորման վրա ու նրանք հենց այդ ոգով են ստեղծագործում:

Խմբի կազմավորման տարիներին տղաներն իրենք էլ ամեն հարմար առիթի դեպքում հայտարարում էին."ՙԱյո', մեզ դուր է գալիս 70-ականների ոճը, ու ինչքան օրիգինալին մոտ նվագենք, այնքան ավելի պայծառ՚"(մեր մեջ ասած, Գալլահեր եղբայրները կամ ասենք նույն Rolling-ներն իրենց ՙաղջիկ՚ ժամանակ հենց այսպիսի երգերի տակ են տժժացել... դե, ենթադրում եմ):

Արդյունքում ստացվել է այնպես, որ Jet-ը ըստ երաժշտագետների, դասվել է Rock’n'Roll և Pop-rock ժանրերը ներկայացնող խմբերի թվին:

Ու այսպես, ծնունդով ավստրալացի, բայց հնչողությամբ շատ բրիտանական այս խումբը ստեղծվել է մոտավորապես 1998թ.-ին, երբ հիմնադիրներ համարվող Cester եղբայրները The Jet անվան տակ համերգներ էին տալիս իրենց դպրոցական ընկերների համար: Սակայն խմբի համար պայծառացումն ու ոգեշնչումը տեղի է ունեցել մի դեպքից հետո: Իրենց երգերը ձայնագրում են ձայներիզի վրա ու հենց այդ ձայներիզով զինված գնում են իրենց սիրելի` You Am I խմբի համերգին: Համերgի ընթացքում Chris-ը չgիտես ինչու (հմ) որոշում է ձայներիզը նետել բեմ: Նետելու ընթացքում նրա ձեռքը դողում է (ով գիտե), ու այդ չարաբաստիկ ձայներիզը դիպչում է վոկալիստի քթին, սա էլ ոչ ավել, ոչ պակաս ետ է նետում ... Այս անգամ հարվածը ստանում է Nick-ը, իսկ նա արտահայտվել է այսպես, ցիտում եմ. "Այդ պահին ես մի տեսակ ոգեշնչվեցի, պայծառացա:" Nick-ի ոգեշնչումը նաև խմբինն էր: Ի դեպ, հետագայում այդ նույն ձայներիզը նրանց էլի օգտակար է եղել:

Հետո խմբի համար գալիս է մի քիչ ձանձրալի ժամանակաշրջան, երբ տղաները ամեն տեսակ աշխատանքի են անցնում,իսկ ավելի ուշ սկսում են հայտնի խմբերի համերգներին նվագել... այդպես, մինչև որ նրանց է միանում շատ հաստատակամ մի պրոդյուսեր, որն էլ նրանց հասցնում է ճանաչման:

Մեզ հետաքրքրող պահը սկսվում է 2003-ից, երբ նրանք թողարկեցին իրենց առաջին ալբոմը` Get Born:

Last Chance. սա շատ ճիշտ ընտրված երգ է, որը բացում է ալբոմը ու որը բոլոր դեպրեսիվ մարդկանց վերջին հնարավորությունն է տալիս իրենցից ձեռ քաշելու: Անհնար է մութ տրամադրությամբ վերցնել ու այսքան ուրախ երգ լսել:

Are You Gonna Be My Girl. 2-րդ երգը: Օ~, սա ինչ որ բան է... Գիտեմ, լսել եք ու հաստատ, դե գոնե մեկ անգամ եղել է ձեր party-ների հիթը: Սա իսկական հարված է այն մարդկանց համար, ովքեր մինչև հիմա rock'n'roll ասելուց հասկանում են միայն The Beatles: Մի քիչ խելքը թռցրած, թեթևսոլիկ, բայց ընտիր հնչողությամբ. այսպես վերնագրենք ու... Էլ ի՞նչ եք կարդում, պարել է պետք:

Խեղճ DJ. այս մի երգում` Rollover DJ, նրանց թիրախն է դարձել մի DJ, որն այնքան էլ զիլ չէ, ինչպես իրենք... Կլսեք ու կասեք. "Բայց ինչպիսիիի~ կիթառիստ ունեն:"

Look What You Have Done. բարի, բարի, շատ բարի ու բալլադային, ապացույցն այն բանի, որ տղաները միշտ չէ, որ ծխած կամ խմած են լինում ու չնայած ամեն ինչի, կարգին ճաշակ ունեն: Այս երգը իր ժամանակին մեր տեղական ռադիոներով հաճախակի հնչեցվում էր, ես էլ լսում ու սիրում էի այն, բայց չգիտեի, թե ով է կատարում:

Get What You Need. Yeah... չգիտեմ էլ ինչ ասեմ, այս երգի նշանակությունը երևի միայն իրենք են հասկանում, հաստատ իրենց կյանքից վերցված որևէ պատմության վրա են գրել:

Այ այստեղ մի բան եմ ուզում ասել. ուշադրություն դարձրե՞լ եք, թե ինչպես են գոռում “Yeah” (հատկապես Cold Hard Bitch)... Այդպես միայն ավստրալացիները կանեն, հիշենք միայն The Vines-ին:

Move On, Radio Song, Come Around Again, Timothy. ընդհանրացրած կարող ենք որակել "ուրիշ աշխարհից ու ալբոմից դուրս", Look What You’ve Done-ի մեկնաբանությունը լիովին կհամընկնի սրանց:

Get Me Outta Here, Cold Hard Bitch, Take It Or Leave It, Lazy Gun. կիթառը, ռիթմիկան, ճաշակով աղմուկը, հրաշալի տրամադրությունը ու Yeah-ը: Ահա, եթե չտարվեմ շատախոսությամբ, որը ինձ բնորոշ չէ, ահա վերը նշվածի պես վերջաբան կտամ: Երգերի ավելի ծավալուն ու սուբյեկտիվ մեկնաբանությունները արեք ինքներդ ձեզ համար, այսպես ասած մեկ անգամ էլ վերհիշեք ու ապրեք այն զգացողությունը, որն ունեցել եք ալբոմն առաջին անգամ լսելուց:

Jet - Live in Cologne (September 14, 2009)

Well, this is the band to see. And just can't explain why. And even YouTube won't help. They are just great live!

Jet, Jet...

So, on September 14th, in the middle of the week, I rushed out of the office and was running like hell to the station to catch the train. Then I was heading to Cologne and.. OOPS! It seems I have the wrong ticket: it's just for a normal train, not ICE. But the girl that was checking was quite kind: she heard what I said and just let me go!!! Yes, there are still nice people in the world, that's true! :)

This was the first time that I had to use public transport in Cologne. And my map was correct this time, so subway, then walking for around 15 minutes and I'm in the place! Well, it reminded me of a club in Rome called Circolo degli Artisti but it was smaller. Well, nice memories about Circolo and nice music for warming up. And of course I couldn't refuse some German beer and.. Jet market! I got a t-shirt with K.I.A. which they didn't play during the show (actually quite strange, huh?).

I have to say, it's not really fun to go to the concerts alone.. And it's really sad to see Jet so underrated. When you say to others that you are going to see them live, first they wonder who the hell Jet is! And then they remember "what was that song? Ah... something like.. Do you want to be my girl?". Not even many of them remember the correct title of the song. Whatever! It's not the band of one song. It's really a great band deserving much more appreciation than maybe most of the bands that exist now.

Now from the sad things to optimistic ones. I was in the first row!!! Ahahahaha, I would say it was quite dangerous because of the crazy fans jumping up with every beat but it was quite fun. Then you totally forget you came all alone :P

First, of course, the warming up. Glowing Elephant.

Let's say, it was quite a strange band.. I mean, almost all their songs were about galleries (unsuccessful painters? boh!). Some kind of psychadelic stuff, with some dance punk elements. I think the guys haven't decided yet about their final sound. Anyway, the music was... warming up :) And the vocalist was hillarious! At least for me. The bassist reminded me of a friend of mine - Davo, with his curly hair. The drummer was cool! Davo, especially for you, the photo of the bass player ;)

Then it comes a loooooong break (with strange but chilling music) when everybody takes out their instruments, packing them, then the technicians coming and setting up all the equipment, checking them. Then the crew putting the bottles and towels and.. beers of course all around the stage! So 30 minutes of waiting.. and HERE THEY ARE!

Comparing with the opening band, the first sounds from Jet were quite loud and powerful. I guess it was Get What You Need. The whole crowd went just crazy! Several times Chris Cester - the drummer, had to calm down the people convincing them to be more cool. But how can you just stand still and not push everybody around and jumb high when it's one of the best hard rock/garage rock bands are playing just in a few meters away from you! It was totally crazy, awesome and rocking atmosphere.

Although the tour was called Shaka Rock but it was like a return of Get Born. Actually they didn't play so many things from the new album. I expected them to play Times Like This but they didn't. Pfffff, but it was actually even better they played Get Born mostly because it's my favourite one, I know all the songs by heart because every song I LIKE! It was such a blast!

Well, just a thing I noticed. Does anybody remember Mark Wilson THIS thin? I was shocked. He looked.. well.. really cute ^^

I can't even express how they were live. I watched so much live stuff from them but never could imagine they could be THAT great. With humour, friendly, fun guys. And really nice music..

If they come around (again) to your town, don't miss them EVER! They are worthy to see live, I promise! ;)

Jet - The Wild One Killed In Action

Do you like Emperor's New Groove? About the Emperor Kuzco.. Well, do you remember the episode when the lama saves Pacha's life after the collapse of a rope bridge, and he says "aha, aha-aha-aha". This phrase you will remember first after you hear the new song K.I.A. (Killed In Action) of Australian band Jet. Yes, you can get prepared your ears and remind yourself some twist-moves because in August you just HAVE to dance to and sing along with the new album of these Aussies!

After huge success of the first album Get Born in 2003 which became platinum and Shine On in 2006, which was, well, quite weak for the band and did not make any big noise many people, including me, probably were thinking that this band will collapse. Fortunately not! In 2008 they released a tribute cover of Johnny O'Keefe's song The Wild One together with Iggy Pop. The single included the cover version, the original one (remastered) and 2 awesome dance remixes. This release assured all the Jet fans that the band WILL return soon and it will be much more powerful thing than Shine On.
On April, 2009, Jet made K.I.A. available on their official website. And now it's clear that the band will release Shaka Rock, the 3rd studio album, on August 25, 2009. Jet performed some of the new songs live during the concerts in late 2008 and 2009. The first single is announced to be She's a Genius.


Meanwhile K.I.A. having a really crazy drive but not on the highest speed, sounds like a clockwork bomb ready to explode on August 25, 2009! It will be like.. you know.. Tick Tick BOOOOOM!!!
